Another First For Obama
And we’re off to the races. The Obama Administration has always been about firsts rather than bests. We were told that we would have the first African-American president, or the first bi-racial president depending on the crowd to whom the speech was delivered. We got the first, insert name of visible minority here, secretary of this or that or the other. It has always been about firsts, but never once have I heard Team Obama say we’re going to appoint the best.
Well the latest entry in the first sweepstakes involves Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sottamayor. I know what you’re thinking. She’s the first Hispanic woman on the high court; but according to the White House that’s not the only first. As a TV pitchman might say on a late night informercial – but wait, there’s more. According to the White House, Sottomayor is not just the first Latina to wear the robes, she’s also the first ever disabled justice. Apparently she has diabetes. I’m just wondering if that doctor patient thing means anything any more…how about HIPPAA?
