Free Lunch Elections

|

Last week a collective temper tantrum was thrown by the petulant childish voters in France, who declared that they would not eat their vegetables. French President Nicolas Sarkozy had stated time and again over his six years in office that there was  no such thing as a free lunch. He tried to convince the French that retiring at sixty left the country in a lurch. He suggested  that perhaps a mandatory six weeks of vacation was not helping the productivity of France. He even had the temerity to suggest that the French should pay their bills.

Sarkozy was rewarded with a defeat by the socialist candidate who has declared that he hates the rich; a funny comment from a  multi-millionaire who owns three palatial homes on the French Riviera. His platform was simple: don’t worry be happy.

The Greek population, faced with the prospect of living in the real world where bills must be paid, took a pass. Now German Chancellor Angela Merkel has lost a big state election to the party which promises even more free stuff.

Not a good time to be an adult running for office.
