Prayers For Neil Cooksey And His Family
Mecklenburg Commissioner Neil Cooksey has put up a champion’s battle against pancreatic cancer since early 2010; this week we learn that after complications from surgery last month, Neil has decided to discontinue treatment and enter hospice.
“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Mecklenburg County these past few years,” he said in a statement released Friday, “and I hope to continue my service as long as physically possible.”
As a District 5 constituent of Neil’s, I can honestly say that the privilege goes both ways. Neil is one of the good guys, and as a politician they don’t come much better – the kind you can vehemently disagree with on policy and then share a friendly lunch together, one who weighs each decision made from the dais with an eye toward how it can improve the community and constituents he serves.
