Sheriff Joe’s Warped Perception Of Reality

|

Vice President Joe Biden’s propensity for the political gaffe is well documented. What’s even more disturbing, though, is when Biden doesn’t pull a blunder by sticking his foot in his mouth with a misplaced reference or ill-timed joke, but simply speaks his mind on reality as he perceives it. This from the Washington Examiner:

Vice President Joe Biden faulted Mitt Romney for believing that “so-called job creators” build the economy, as he suggested that government spending and increased taxes on the wealthy would provide long-term economic strength.

“[Romney believes] somehow, that those so-called job creators will make everything okay for the rest of us,” Biden said at the National Education Association conference. “We believe that the way to build this country is the way we always have, from the middle out  . . . [to] invest in the things that have always made our economy grow: innovation, research, development, infrastructure, and education.”

Biden’s disconnect from economic realities is staggering, but typical for aggressively liberal progressives who believe the solution to every problem can be found through more expansive government, higher taxes and redistributive wealth. The private sector and its “so-called job creators,” in Sheriff Joe’s world, are seen as little more than an enemy to be thwarted and a pocket to be picked.

In that light, it’s entirely appropriate that Biden’s comments were delivered at a conference for the National Education Association. As the nation’s largest teachers’ union, and a key base for the Democrat Party, the NEA has long since ceased to exist as an actual advocate for teachers and students. Much like in Biden’s warped reality “so-called job creators” have little to do with stimulating a robust economy, the NEA is notorious in its dismissal of school vouchers for charters as a way to create educational opportunity for all children.

The NEA’s utter lack of support for charters has little to do with education; charters are demonized largely because they are harder to unionize, hampering potential growth of dues-paying members. Similarly, liberal progressives, as typified by Biden’s comments, view private sector job-creators as an erosion of dependence on big government and as a manifest threat to its continued expansion.

All of which goes a long way in explaining the current state of public education and the national economy.
