The Progressive Subsidized Declaration
One should reread the Declaration of Independence occasionally. It goes something like this, these days, modified for modern, progressive times:
When in the course of human events, ……We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal… and if they can’t keep up, they should be subsidized, that they are endowed by their Creator (scratch that – insert ‘the government’) with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Housing, Food, Medical care, K-12 and College education, Air Conditioning, Heat, Television, Cell Phones, Computers, Internet Service and Transportation. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers by a majority vote of those who want to receive something for nothing.
Whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the People to alter such government until it again gives them whatever they want in exchange for their vote. This new government lays its foundation on such principles and organizes its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to maintain these rights, Safety and Happiness.
Further, this government, in order to maintain the support of the majority, must not allow those who wish to work, or start businesses, or risk their homes or Safety in search of economic returns above others, to have such reward and must punish those for attempting such endeavors. In fact the people, through government, must institute such punitive taxes and onerous restrictions that those so inclined will be swayed from such temptation and will join the majority in their subsidized position.
The history of the United States is one of repeated injuries by the rich against the subsidized, our history is replete with usurpations of the subsidized by those who work, it is a history where those who work and save have seen their position improve relative to the position of those who choose to remain idle. To prove this, let Facts be presented to a candid world:
People who have worked, saved and built businesses have prospered while those who don’t haven’t.
People who have risked their savings, investing in startup businesses have sometimes prospered extraordinarily.
People who have paid their bills and loans on time have kept good credit ratings.
People who have worked hard at their jobs, putting in long hours, have accumulated more money than others.
People who have worked hard, been responsible and brought profits to their companies have been promoted to positions of responsibility and paid more than others.
People who have saved their money and passed it on to their children have seen their children start in better economic position than those who don’t.
People who have borrowed within their means to pay back have kept the items they borrowed and paid for.
In every instance of these Oppressions, the subsidized majority has petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms, such petitioning having been often met by repeated injury. Redress must therefore be brought about by action, the rich must give up their advantage to the subsidized poor, that all will be equal. None who work must be allowed any advantage over those who don’t. If those who have worked then choose not to work, then they may join the subsidized in their equality.
Thus finally, when all are equal with the subsidized and there is no longer differentiation by rewards for work, then equality will be ours. Our government will have been successful and we will all have obtained our equal unalienable rights.
