Ready, Set…Vote!

|

The Big One is still a few weeks away, but one-stop early voting kicks off today for folks so inclined. Think of it as fast food for democracy.

On that note, is it just a coincidence that early voting starts on the same day that the City of Charlotte’s Solid Waste Services Department kicks off its “Recycle It! Everywhere” program with an event uptown?

Before launching into the locations and times for local one-stop voting, some perspective and history of the state’s early vote, courtesy of the Civitas Institute, which has a nifty vote tracker to keep you up to date with the latest. For example, as of Oct. 16, a total of 61,980 votes had been cast, mostly by mail; of that total 33,557 were registered Republican (51%), 16,924 Democrat (27%), 11,392 Unaffiliated (18%), and 108 Libertarian (0.17%). Compare that to the same timeframe from the 2008 election, when there were 54,636 votes cast: 30,053 Republican; 15,786 Democrat; 8,775 Unaffiliated; and 23 Libertarian.

Make of that what you will.
