Gov Bev: Political Hack To The Bitter End

|

From the Department of How Convenient, we learn that state Supreme Court Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson, a liberal who was originally backed by former governor and Democrat corruption king crony Mike Easley, is retiring from the bench before Gov. Bev Perdue slithers out of office in January.

Under an executive order that Perdue decreed last year, allegedly to take the politics out of judicial appointments, Timmons-Goodson’s replacement should be filled after a special commission vets potential candidates and forwards three finalists to the governor for consideration.

But that’s not going to happen. As a final affront to the people of North Carolina and abuse of her office, Perdue intends to ram through a replacement instead of giving the commission she created sufficient time to produce a thoughtful recommendation and leaving the decision to the discretion of Republican Gov-elect Pat McCrory.

One member of the panel, former chief justice of the state Supreme Court Burley Mitchell, said the commission is not ready to take up an appointment to the Supreme Court at this stage of Perdue’s administration, which will end in early January.

“And I don’t think we have the time to work on that, quite frankly,” Mitchell said.

Perdue’s communications director, Chris Mackey, acknowledged that a possible scenario would have Perdue rescind the order creating the commission to make clear that it is not involved in the decision. After that, Perdue would make the choice on a replacement.

“She is looking at all her options,” Mackey said while affirming that Perdue will appoint the next justice.

It’s a fitting swan song stanza of wretched warbling for Perdue, who has managed to find yet another way to soil her already grossly tainted legacy and stick it to the public – again – on her way out the door.
