Tax-and-Spenders By Any Name

|

The uptown paper delivers yet another typical piece of big-government advocacy. One might guess where the funding for the NC Budget and Tax Center comes from, since the only thing Alexandra Forter Sirota, director, does is advocate for more and higher taxes. Perhaps a rename is in order: the Center of Advocacy for Higher Taxes and Larger Budgets for NC, would appear to contain truth in advertising.

In one part of her solicitation for more taxes on the people and higher spending for government, Ms. Sirota talks about a shortfall in Medicaid funding. Medicaid, the medical insurance of choice for poor people and anyone who can rearrange their personal finances in order to hide enough assets and income to obtain it, is very expensive to the taxpayers of North Carolina and the United States in general. In North Carolina an attempt to control the upward spiraling costs of this transfer program has been made. The state legislature has established what is called ‘Community Care of North Carolina’. The sole purpose of this state-mandated and funded non-profit organization is to reduce the cost of Medicaid to the taxpayers. The purpose is not to limit necessary care, but to control abuse and waste. They are becoming very successful in this quest and look to save close to $100,000,000 this year, a substantial sum. This allows the state to reduce Medicaid funding by this same amount, while services have not be curtailed. A wonderful win for the taxpayers.

Yet Ms. Sirota, instead of lauding the benefits of this program, decries it as another way funding from the state might be cut. She says, “Moreover, the projected savings expected from Community Care of North Carolina, the state’s managed care program, on top of projected savings could result in further reductions.” What a sentence! Having no proof, no reason, only making a fear-mongering projection, Ms. Sirota advocates more spending and waste.

This is what our legislators face daily in their attempt to control an out of control budget – advocates who are looking to line their own bed at the expense of the taxpayers.

Not surprisingly, the NC Budget and Tax Center bills itself as “a non-partisan project” of the North Carolina Justice Center and its board of directors, led by none other than the Rev. William J. Barber.  So let us all be sure to understand ‘non-partisan’. Those who want bigger government, higher taxes, more waste and burdens on the taxpayers so government employees and sycophants can live easier ARE non-partisan. Non-partisan as in: They don’t care who is in office, so long as they get a free ride.

Read the piece Ms. Sirota writes in its entirety. What you will learn for certain is that she has no consideration of the taxpayers – the ones who pay all the bills for the waste she advocates.
