WBT WTF?

|

Lewis, Katz, Kaliner, Servatius and now Coakley, who is being shown the door after a one-year stint over at WBT 1110-AM, which is apparently intent on doing its absolute best to drive off its core audience and replacing it with …

I’m not sure what. WBT program manager Carl East says the decision to replace Coakley and fill the popular afternoon drive slot with former WBT talker Brad Krantz, as half of “The Brad & Britt Show,” signals a move away from straight politics – the station’s bread-and-butter for years – to something “a lot more fun” in a bid “to appeal to a wider audience.”

Great timing, drawing back from politics and all, right when the DNC is slated to hit town, which some critics claim is a calculated move on the station’s part to curry favor with the left (Krantz’s forte is liberal talking points mixed with a dose of humor).

Whatever the reason, over the last few years WBT has jettisoned a boatload of talent: Jason Lewis moved on to national syndication; Jeff Katz is winning Associated Press awards left and right in Boston; Pete Kaliner is lighting up the dial in Asheville with his wit and wisdom; and Tara Servatius is knocking them out  in South Carolina.

Those are all big losses for Charlotte, no matter how you spin it.
