Broccoli Badges For Federal Food Police
We learned yesterday that the Mayor of the people’s republic of Cambridge is pushing for a complete ban on soda and all sugar sweetened drinks: No soda, no coffee, no tea, no juice, no …well, you get the idea.
Today I heard that Brookline, Mass., will attempt to enact a similar ban at their upcoming town meeting. But wait, there’s more. The American Medical Association is apparently scheduled to vote today on a measure calling for a federal tax on soda. Not just any tax, but a federal tax that would be used to finance a federal food police agency. I wish I could invent this, but that’s the report I got this morning. A new crew of federal bureaucrats with the goal of telling me what I can and cannot eat.
I assume, if it comes to pass, Michelle Antoinette Obama will be the first commissar of the fed foodies, but who would staff the lower ranks? Postal workers? Registry of motor vehicles hacks? Turnpike toll takers? I’m not sure where this all ends, but I sure hope that soylent green will come in new and exciting flavors.
