The Roberts Riddle
The response to the Obamacare ruling has been fascinating, but I’m not sure how correct much of it has been. The immediate reaction from most conservatives was that John Roberts has turned out to be another David Souter…a weasel forced on us by another President Bush.
I think that in reading Roberts’ decision you can sense that he may very well have changed his vote at the last minute, perhaps as the result of the ugly attack on the court launched by Barack Obama and his minions. In writing the court’s majority opinion, the Chief Justice actually helps to corral the ever-growing congressional leviathan under the commerce clause. That is a major accomplishment that should not be ignored. Further, Roberts makes very clear that Obama, Pelosi and Reid are, in fact, liars. They all swore up and down that Obamacare’s mandate was not a tax. You knew it was. I knew it was. And now everyone knows.
Roberts also reminded us that his job is to determine if something is a constitutional law, not whether it’s a good law. The left now must own the biggest tax increase in the history of the world. Now it’s up to patriots to act in November.
