Eric Holder’s ID Hypocrisy

|

Attorney General Eric Holder railed against voter ID laws during a speech at the NAACP National Convention this week, where journalists covering the event were required to present two forms of identification to gain entrance.

Wait, what? No hypocrisy here, move right along. This from Katie Pavlich at Townhall:

What did media need in order to attend? That’s right, government issued photo identification (and a second form of identification too!), something both Holder and the NAACP stand firmly against when it comes to voting. Holder’s DOJ is currently suing Texas for “discriminatory” voter ID laws. From the press release:

All media must present government-issued photo I.D. (such as a driver’s license) as well as valid media credentials. Members of the media must RSVP to receive press credentials at http://action.naacp.org/page/s/registration. For security purposes, media check-in and equipment set up must be completed by 7:45 a.m. CDT for an 8:00 a.m. CDT security sweep.  Once the security sweep is completed, additional media equipment will NOT be permitted to enter and swept equipment will NOT be permitted to exit.

So you don’t need an ID to vote, but you need two types of identification to listen to the attorney general demonize ID laws as inherently racist and discriminatory? The hypocrisy didn’t stop with Holder, though; earlier in the week at the same conference, NAACP President Benjamin Jealous also blasted voter ID laws.

At least one representative from Texas, where the NAACP conference is being held and the state which is currently being sued by Holder’s DOJ for “discriminatory” voter ID laws, didn’t let the double standard and spin go unchecked. This from The Blaze:

Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) called out Holder for his apparent hypocrisy today while speaking on the House Floor, saying: “Holder is inconsistent. He believes in security and photo IDs for people when he speaks but rejects valid security and IDs for people when they vote.”

Hmmm, aggressively liberal Democrats flaunting gross double standards when it comes to ID requirements; where have we heard that before?
