Winter is Here, Whiners

|

coldIt got cold. Darn, it’s winter again. I remember back in the 80’s when it stayed below freezing for 30 days. The ice on my pond in Mecklenburg County was 14” thick. Today people whine because it got cold.  Actually they whine because that is what they do.  A nation of whiners, who elected a whiner in chief. It’s always someone else’s fault. The problem in this case is; who do the whiners blame? Personally I’d blame Yankees, or the editorial writers at the CO. Speaking of which, the CO carried an interesting piece about global warming. Duke Energy, due to capacity issues, asked people to conserve their use of electricity. That’s funny.

I’d bet Duke is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, that group of corporatists who are always trying to bring new businesses to town, which means more people and more electricity consumption. You’d think Duke, of all companies would know how much capacity they need if the weather gets cold. Or, maybe they believe in global warming and don’t think it’s ever going to get cold again. SURPRISE!! It’s weather, it happens every year. Sometimes it gets cold. Other times, not so cold. Sometimes it rains, sometimes we have droughts. Sometimes we get hurricanes, other times tornadoes. Sometimes it’s nice enough for the babes to run around scantily clad, enabling men of all ages to get cricks in their necks while the competition, as it were, wear their grumpy faces.

Anyway, Duke is bumping up against capacity constraints. Aren’t they the ones buying power from solar farms and didn’t they just shut down a coal fired plant on the Catawba River? Isn’t coal the nasty, dirty power source that the leftist, radical, environmentalists want to ban? Or is that liquid hydrocarbons, or is it nuclear energy, or is it natural gas, or is it? It is hard for one to keep up with what the radical environmentalists detest now. But I know one thing. They voted en mass for the whiner in chief and democrats in general. So I have a modest suggestion to make.

If you voted for Obama or any of the democrats on city council or the county commission or the school board or the town councils, you obviously support the ideas of the environmental radicals, because you supported their candidates. You obviously think enough electricity can be made from windmills and solar panels to keep everyone using enough electricity to keep them warm in winter. I tell you what; you turn your thermostat down. In fact, just stop using those nasty sources of energy altogether. Live your convictions.  What, those are just words, pretty ideas to talk about unless it turns cold.

Just as I thought. Whiners. They whine about everything. They whine about coal, and CO2 and warm summers, and when it gets cold they whine about winter and being cold and they’ll whine about not having enough electricity from the solar panels. Where’s the whiner in chief to save them? Oh, he went to Hawaii on one of those liquid hydrocarbon consuming jets. I’ll bet it was warm there.

Meanwhile, those of us who voted for free enterprise, capitalism and enough electricity to use when want, expect Duke, the public utility, to use whatever methods necessary to produce enough electricity. But it looks like they might not be, thanks to the leftists who are against, well almost everything. In the meantime, those of you who voted for the whiner in chief and others of the same party, turn your thermostat down, way down.

Those of us who believe in work, self-reliance, capitalism and don’t worry so much about AGW (climate change), won’t miss you.
