Timber Ridge Quotes In Context

|

In the wake of a police-involved shooting at Timber Ridge apartments, the uptown paper of record ran a story that highlighted some residents’ complaints that a heavy police presence in the troubled apartment complex, aimed at reducing crime, “can sometimes feel like harassment and increase tensions.”

The criticisms come after police there Thursday pursued and shot 21-year-old Terrence Darden, a convicted felon on probation who had served time for possession of cocaine and, at the time of the incident, was reportedly carrying a handgun and in possession of a significant load of drugs.

What the Observer article didn’t highlight was the background of some of the folks throwing around quotes that slammed CMPD. Interesting background, to be sure, that’s documented here by local blogger Cedar Posts.

Of particular note is the arrest inquiry report attached to the mug shot Cedar Posts attributes to Charles Dixon, who is quoted in The Observer’s story blasting police patrolling Timber Ridge: “They’ve got zero tolerance for anything. They’re always stopping people, getting in people’s faces.”

Apparently, in the case of Dixon, stopping and arresting for multiple counts of possession with intent to sell/distribute marijuana and cocaine, assault on female, and larceny. Or arrests for passing worthless checks and possession of marijuana, as appears to be the case for Chateama McBrayer, who laments in the Observer article that police “harass people for no reason.”
