Tracking The Early Vote

|

Got this handy-dandy new vote tracker in an email yesterday from the good folks at the Civitas Institute. It’s a nifty way to keep pace with running totals on a daily basis, for anybody without anything better to do like, I don’t know, watching the Rangers clobber the Yankees.

According to the Civitas tracker, we see that Republicans hold a slight edge in turning out the early vote in Mecklenburg County. What does that mean moving forward? Hard to say for certain, but it’s at least an early reverse of previous trends and perhaps attributable to concentrated efforts by the local GOP to gin up an early push to the polls.

One-stop early voting started Oct. 14. As of Oct. 19, according to the Civitas tracker, Mecklenburg has seen a total of 7,046 folk cast ballots: 3,149 Republicans; 2,629 Democrats; and 1,261 Unaffiliated. Charlotte has logged 5,785 early votes, with 2,412 Republicans, 2,359 Democrats, and 1,007 Unaffiliated. Republicans pick up a larger edge in the county’s suburban towns: Matthews – 587 Republicans, 247 Democrats and 172 Unaffiliated; Huntersville – 265 Republicans, 85 Democrats and 81 Unaffiliated; and Cornelius – 134 Republicans, 25 Democrats and 41 Unaffiliated.

A total of 174,753 early votes have been cast, statewide, with 76,859 coming from Democrats, 67,105 from Republicans, and 30,626 from Libertarians.
