MLK Snow Day For CMS – UPDATE: Cannon, NAACP Blast CMS
UPDATE: Gee, imagine that
Pete Gorman & Co. must be hitting the crack pipe extra hard these days if they think there won’t be a huge backlash for using Jan. 17 as a snow make-up day, as the district’s website currently indicates is the intent. Gotta wonder what genius in CMS’ platinum-plated PR Department gave this one the green light.
Just sayin’
Extra credit snafu: there’s at least five inches of snow on the ground, with sleet and freezing rain widely forecast for tonight, but CMS still hasn’t pulled the trigger on calling school. Great way to win the hearts and minds of parents trying to make plans for tomorrow, CMS, really just a spectacular job of communication.
UPDATE: And, whaddya know, CMS just called classes for Tuesday. This from CMS PR Central:
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 11, for all students due to severe weather. CMS employees should note that this is a CODE A: Optional Teacher Workday. There is a two-hour delay report time for all staff and teachers can work from home. The scheduled make up day for Jan. 11 will be Feb. 18 and the Jan. 10 make up day is Jan. 17.
All after-school activities (tutorials, PTA meetings and athletic events and contests) are canceled. The CMS After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) will not be in operation. CMS new-employee orientation as well as all professional development activities are also canceled.
Due to severe weather conditions, the Jan. 11 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting will begin at 2 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. It will be held at the Government Center meeting chamber (600 East Fourth Street). The meeting will also air live on CMS TV (Time Warner Cable channel 3).
