Perdue’s Veto On The Chopping Block
NC GOP House leaders are set for their first big legislative tussle with a vote slated for Wednesday to override Gov. Beverly Perdue’s veto of the Protect Healthcare Freedom Act, a bill that would block the provision of Obamacare requiring people to buy health insurance or face a penalty.
Former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory has even jumped into the fray, making the rounds with robocalls and a youtube vid, footed by Americans For Prosperity NC, to help rally the base.
But even with its base intact, GOP House leaders will need help from across the political aisle to reach the three-fifths majority for a veto override. With that in mind, a few Democrats who squeaked by at the ballot box last year should pop on the radar as vulnerable for lobbying. Contact them at your earliest convenience and encourage them to join the effort to right Perdue’s misguided wrong:

State GOP Chairman Robin Hayes, who called the Protect Healthcare Freedom Act veto “a political IOU from Governor Perdue to Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the liberal special interests she needs to win re-election,” yesterday sent out a press release calling for House Democrats Brisson, Dewey Hill (Dewey.Hill@ncleg.net; 919-733-5830), Timothy Spear (Tim.Spear@ncleg.net; 919-715-3029) and Frank McGuirt (Frank.McGuirt@ncleg.net; 919-715-3007) to join with Republicans on the override vote.
