Three guns confiscated in two days at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, as the school board preps for tonight’s ask of an additional $55 million in county funding.
Yesterday it was a student attempting to hijack a school bus, an event that yielded eight counts of kidnapping and two counts of possession of a weapon on school grounds. This from WSOC-TV:
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said the bus driver diffused an extremely dangerous situation. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers learned that a student approached the bus driver at the student’s bus stop, displayed a handgun and demanded the driver to drive him to another destination.
The suspect gave the driver the handgun and exited the school bus. He then talked with him to calm him down. The driver left the boy in the neighborhood drove a safe distance away and called for help.
CMPD also revealed after the suspect exited the bus, another student approached the driver and informed him that the suspect had given him a handgun and was asked to assist him in the incident. The student took the weapon from the suspect but didn’t help him.
And then early this morning, CMS’ platinum-plated PR department sent out the following alert to school board members:
It was just reported that a male student brought gun on campus at Jay M. Robinson Middle School this morning. It was unloaded and the student didn’t have bullets. The student has been apprehended.
The student transported the gun via his bus and showed it to students. Upon arriving on campus, students told administration and the SRO began his investigation. CMS Police are headed to the scene and will provide an update as it becomes available.
It’ll be interesting to see how many expulsions result from the latest round of CMS gun-slinging. If history is any indicator, my guess is zero.
