Overreach Of Good Intentions
As the loving father of a beautiful little girl with disabilities, I can tell you that you’ll never meet someone who is more concerned with issues of accessibility. My princess Julia may be nine-years-old but she functions at the level of a toddler about 18-months-old. Julia does not speak and she is just learning to walk. She wears braces and we usually use a wheelchair to help her get around. So again, I’ve got to tell you that I care about handicapped access. I am happy to see curb cuts and ramps. I know the value of designated parking spaces.
All of that being noted, I was blown away when I read some of the rules under the new and allegedly improved Americans with Disabilities Act. Some of the new requirements include designated wheelchair seats on amusement park rides and handicapped accessible paths to golf cart rental areas. Shooting facilities and saunas must be redesigned to meet new requirements and the ADA will now dictate the layouts of miniature golf courses.
The accessible road to hell is indeed paved with good intentions.
